MTS, Ericsson test 5G technology on LTE frequencies
MOSCOW, Mar 11 (PRIME) -- Major Russian mobile operator MTS and Swedish tech giant Ericsson have tested technology of dynamic redistribution of a frequency resource between networks 4G LTE and 5G NR, which makes quick and cheap unrolling of 5G on the existing LTE infrastructure possible, MTS said late on Tuesday in a statement.
“Testing of the new technology was done in Ufa in the MTS office on a commercial base station and equipment by Ericsson Radio System with solution Instant Ericsson Spectrum Sharing (Instant ESS), ensuring an instant switch between the technologies 4G and 5G,” MTS said.
The technology improves effectiveness of spectrum exploitation significantly and reduces the lags and time of connection.
MTS Vice President for equipment Viktor Belov said, “In the current conditions, when Russia is undecided on allocation of frequencies for 5G, MTS sees technology of dynamic redistribution of the spectrum as the key to evolution from 4G to 5G.”
